If governance is steering, perhaps the question we need to ask is...are we steering people or an organisation?
Governance comes from the Greek and the Latin, to steer.
Perhaps the question we should ask is, “are we steering organisations or are we steering people?”
Maybe our focus is too much on steering organisations and if we spent more time steering people, towards our values, we would better steer our organisations.
