I've long mooted the idea that compliance is not something that can be done. That's because it's an outcome. Jugglers know this. They don't focus on the outcome, they focus on the means to get their outcome.
“I thought you did compliance, Perrin?”
“Yes, I do”, I replied. “So what’s all this about governance?” was the response.
For those of you that know me or my work, this might not be new, however, as an educator, I have come to realise how important it is to regularly reflect and revisit key themes.
Compliance is hugely important, it’s become a central stream to many an organisation’s work, mainly because of increasing regulation.
But it’s not something you can do. No one can.
That’s because compliance is an outcome, an outcome of two principal things we can do,
Governance and risk management.
Jugglers can teach us about focusing on what needs to be done to get a good outcome, because if we focus on the outcome alone, we will not become better.
